On Sunday, January 26, 2025, we reached a major milestone—the official groundbreaking for the Rashid S. Conteh Memorial Surgery Center at the Evans Medical Center campus. This center will provide critical, life-saving surgeries, including cesarean sections, appendectomies, and hernia repairs, bringing essential
medical care to those who need it most.
The ceremony was a heartfelt occasion, with many community leaders and supporters gathered to mark this significant step forward. Among the distinguished guests were:
· Alie Kamara, Kirma Village Headman
· Alpha Bangura, Deputy Kirma Village Headman
· Ibrahim Bangura, Deputy Section Headman
· Dr. Mustapha Komrabai-Kanu, Cardiologist, Evans Medical Center
· Mr. Saidu Turay, Construction Supervisor and Community Stakeholder
· Mr. Samuel Williams, representing the Evans family
· Peter Nyama, Contractor Consultant
Many of these leaders shared their thoughts on the impact of this project. Emotions ran high as Beth Pope and Swaray Conteh recounted the story behind the Rashid S. Conteh Memorial Foundation and its mission.
Family members and close friends were also present to witness this historic moment, including Ms. Rugiatu Legg, Sama Conteh, Kaday Mansaray, and Alimamy Mansaray, who is also serving as Project Manager. Dr. Sesay, owner and operator of the Evans Medical Center, expressed his deep gratitude to our nonprofit for its partnership in making this vision a reality.
This surgery center will stand as a symbol of Rashid’s compassion and dedication to helping others. We are incredibly grateful to all the donors whose generosity has made this possible.
